iPhone screen display size

iPhone screen display size

Postby nquateman on November 8th, 2008, 6:12 pm

During Tom Rowe's demo he mentioned that the iPhone was the best display option for MobileTM. I don't own an iPhone, but after I got MobileTM set up I borrowed a friend's iPhone at dinner to try MobileTM. While I could see that there would be more screen real estate on the iPhone than on my Treo 700p, on the iPhone it was so small that I couldn't read it.

Is it possible to change the display size or resolution on an iPhone?

If yes, it is possible to set the size for only a specific Web address (so that a MobileTM setting would not confound settings for other sites)?

Neil, I do not own and iPhone but I know that by default it assumes you are looking at a normal web page. It has a nifty zoom function that allows you to use your thumb and forefinger to spread the page out. A motion akin to to placing your fingers together and spreading them out diagonally to zoom into the page.

I do not know if the iPhone is smart enough to remember the setting on a URL by URL basis or not. Maybe someone can investigate this for us. It appeared to "stick" for me but I didn't have the phone long enough to test it thoroughly.

Neil,

In our next release we have customized the experience for the iPhone Safari display such that it renders perfectly without having to use the iPhones multi-touch zoom. It looks awesome!

PS: the release will be available next week

Although I (still) don't own an iPhone, I'm looking forward to borrowing one after the new version is released. It may motivate me to go that way. Thanks for the update.
